California notaries are required to communicate with clients in the same language, without the help of an interpreter. If someone needing notarization does not speak English, please notify the notary immediately, as he will not be able to proceed with the notarization for that person.

- The fee a notary public may charge for taking an acknowledgment or administering an oath may not exceed $15. Other fees set by statute that a notary public may charge can be found in California Government Code § 8211.
